Pesticide Risk Mitigation Workshop by CropLife Africa and Middle East (CLAME) and CropLife Kenya held on 06 & 07 August 2018 at EKA Hotel, Nairobi.
The workshop focused on building capacity of pesticide industry representatives in management of risks associated with pesticide use, in line with efforts by stakeholders under the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). The workshop brought together regional and local Industry players, SAICM focal, Ministry of Environment and representatives from stakeholder organizations.
The specific objectives of the workshop:
- The importance of compliance of industry members to the FAO/WHO International Code of Conduct.
- To enhance knowledge and the application of risk mitigation measures, based on the CropLife International stewardship risk mitigation toolbox.
- The challenge of managing risks associated with Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) at the national level and how this can be achieved.
- Context on SAICM and its role for national management of chemicals.
